Medi Cotton Thigh 20-30 mmHg Compression Stockings — Breathable Cotton Blend for Men & Women

Medi Cotton Thigh compression stockings extend medical-grade 20-30 mmHg compression from the foot all the way up to the top of the thigh. Unlike calf-length compression that only supports the lower leg, thigh-high stockings treat venous conditions affecting the entire leg — including the femoral vein, saphenous vein, and larger vascular structures that calf compression cannot reach. The soft cotton-blend fabric keeps the stocking comfortable during extended daily wear that thigh-high compression demands.

Available in separate designs for men and women. Select your gender and size from the variant menu above. Both versions deliver identical 20-30 mmHg medical compression, with gender-specific styling.

Why Thigh-High Instead of Calf?

Calf-length compression addresses the lower leg only. Thigh-high stockings address the entire venous system from ankle to groin. This matters when your venous condition involves veins above the knee — including varicose veins in the thigh, chronic venous insufficiency affecting the whole leg, moderate lymphedema, post-thrombotic syndrome after a proximal DVT, or post-surgical recovery from vein procedures in the thigh region.

Your physician or vascular specialist recommends thigh-high compression when calf-length cannot adequately manage your specific condition. Do not switch from prescribed thigh-high to calf-length compression without medical guidance. The clinical difference matters for symptom management and long-term venous health.

Why Cotton Makes Long Wear Comfortable

Thigh-high compression stays in contact with more skin surface than calf-length. This makes fabric choice more important for daily wearability. Cotton fibers absorb moisture rather than wicking, which suits people with sensitive skin, contact dermatitis, or synthetic allergies. The natural feel of cotton against the thigh reduces the "compressive" sensation that some patients find uncomfortable with synthetic-only thigh-highs.

Vancouver's humid climate makes breathable natural fibers particularly comfortable for extended thigh-high wear. Cotton softens with washing, which many long-term compression users appreciate for months of daily use. The trade-off is slightly less moisture management during heavy exercise — cotton thigh-highs are best for daily medical wear rather than intense athletic activity.

Why 20-30 mmHg Matters

20-30 mmHg is medical-grade compression prescribed for varicose veins, chronic venous insufficiency, moderate lymphedema, post-thrombotic syndrome, and post-surgical recovery. The graduated pressure profile starts firm at the ankle and gradually reduces up the leg to the top of the thigh. This gradient pushes venous blood back toward the heart from the entire leg rather than only the lower portion.

Patients with venous conditions affecting the thigh often report significant symptom relief within 1-2 weeks of consistent thigh-high compression wear. Reduced aching, less swelling by end of day, and improved skin condition in the thigh and lower leg all become noticeable with proper daily use.

Who Uses Medi Cotton Thigh-High

Patients with varicose veins extending into the thigh use thigh-high compression rather than calf-length. Chronic venous insufficiency patients with symptoms above the knee benefit from full-leg compression coverage. Post-thrombotic syndrome patients recovering from a proximal DVT need thigh-high compression to manage the entire affected leg.

Lymphedema patients with mild to moderate leg lymphedema often wear thigh-high compression as part of comprehensive lymphedema management. Post-surgical patients recovering from vein stripping, endovenous laser treatment (EVLT), or radiofrequency ablation of the great saphenous vein wear thigh-high compression during the recovery period.

Adults with sensitive skin who cannot tolerate synthetic thigh-highs choose cotton for daily wear. Office workers, teachers, and healthcare workers who need medical compression during long work days appreciate the softer feel during extended sitting or standing.

Design and Fit Features

The silicone dot top band grips the thigh without cutting into the skin. This prevents the classic thigh-high problem of stockings sliding down during wear. The dot pattern distributes grip evenly rather than creating one tight compression line at the top edge.

The reinforced heel and toe zones handle daily wear without premature holes. Flat toe seams reduce pressure on the toes during long wear. The knit produces true graduated compression from ankle to thigh — precise pressure engineering that cheaper cotton thigh-highs lack.

The men's version offers classic dark colors and a slightly wider fit through the thigh. The women's version includes additional color options and a slimmer profile. Both provide identical clinical compression regardless of styling.

Sizing

Thigh-high compression requires four measurements: ankle circumference, calf circumference, thigh circumference (measured at the widest point), and leg length from floor to top of thigh. All four measurements must be correct for the stocking to fit properly and deliver effective compression.

Yaletown Medical Supplies measures all four dimensions during in-store fitting. Men and women use separate size charts. Select the Men or Women variant from the menu above, then choose your size after measurement.

Visit our store for professional fitting before your first thigh-high compression purchase. Self-measurement for thigh-highs is difficult and often produces wrong sizing. Wrong sizing produces stockings that slide down during wear, cut circulation at the top band, or fail to provide effective compression.

How to Put Them On

Thigh-high compression stockings take practice. Try these steps:

Put the stockings on first thing in the morning before leg swelling develops. Turn the stocking inside out down to the heel. Slip your foot into the toe. Roll the stocking up your leg gradually, smoothing wrinkles as you go. Continue rolling up over the knee and to the top of the thigh. Adjust the silicone top band so it sits flat against the skin without folding.

Wear rubber gloves for grip, or use a stocking donner tool for easier application. Ask Yaletown staff to demonstrate the technique during your fitting appointment. Never fold or roll down the top — folding creates a tourniquet effect that restricts circulation.

Care Instructions

Machine wash cold in a mesh laundry bag on the delicate cycle with mild detergent. Air dry only — never use the dryer's heat setting. Heat damages the elastic fibers and can shrink cotton components. Do not iron, bleach, or dry clean.

Replace thigh-high compression stockings every 6 months with regular daily wear. Compression fades gradually through washing cycles. The silicone top band may lose grip over time — replacement pairs restore proper hold.

Important Notes

Consult your physician before starting 20-30 mmHg thigh-high compression therapy if you have not been prescribed compression by a healthcare provider. Some conditions worsen with compression including advanced peripheral arterial disease and certain heart conditions.

If your foot, calf, or thigh feels numb, cold, tingling, or changes color during wear, remove the stocking immediately and re-check sizing. Discomfort during thigh-high wear usually indicates wrong fit rather than product defect.
