The complete kit includes the Primera unit, two lead wires, and electrodes. You also get a 9-volt battery, a carrying case, and a user manual. A back belt holds the electrodes in place over your lower back. The unit is pocket-sized, measuring 108 by 65 by 23 millimetres. It weighs only 100 grams with the battery installed, so it carries easily.

TENS vs NMES: What Does the Primera TENS/NMES Kit Do?

TENS stands for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, and it targets pain. Small electrical pulses pass through the skin and may reduce how strongly you feel pain. NMES stands for neuromuscular electrical stimulation, also called EMS or electrical muscle stimulation. The pulses make the muscle contract, much like a gentle workout. Physiotherapists use NMES to help maintain muscle strength during recovery. The Primera also includes the HAN waveform, which alternates between low and high frequencies.

How to Use the Primera TENS/NMES Kit

Clean and dry the skin where you plan to place the electrodes. Connect the lead wires to the unit and attach them to the electrodes. Place the electrodes on your skin, then choose a TENS or NMES program. Start with the intensity at its lowest setting and raise it slowly. You should feel a comfortable tingling or muscle contraction, never pain. Always turn the unit off before you remove or move the electrodes. Important Notes About the Primera TENS/NMES Kit

Talk to your physician before using any TENS or NMES device. Do not use it if you have a pacemaker or implanted electronic device. Avoid use during pregnancy, over broken skin, or on the front of the neck. Never use it while driving, sleeping, or in the bath or shower. Stop using it and see your doctor if skin irritation or new pain develops. TENS manages symptoms only and does not treat the cause of pain.
