Tegaderm Film Dressings in Three Sizes
We stock film dressings in three sizes, from small to large. The small size measures 6 cm x 7 cm and suits minor cuts. The medium size measures 10 cm x 12 cm and covers most small wounds. The large size measures 15 cm x 20 cm and covers wider areas. Boxes hold 100 small, 50 medium, or 10 large dressings. Single pieces suit a home first aid kit, while boxes suit clinics and caregivers. Browse the dressings and bandages collection to see every option.
Tegaderm +Pad Dressings With an Absorbent Pad
Tegaderm +Pad adds a non-adherent absorbent pad to the clear film. Solventum describes it as an all-in-one dressing with a sterile, waterproof barrier. The pad sits at the centre and does not stick to the wound. We stock four sizes, starting at 6 cm x 10 cm. The longest pad dressing measures 9 cm x 25 cm for longer wounds. Boxes hold 50 of the smallest size and 25 of the larger sizes. Each size also comes as a single piece for one-off needs.
Tegaderm Film Roll for Custom Sizes
The Tegaderm film roll measures 10 cm wide and 10 metres long. You cut a piece to the length your wound or device needs. Solventum says the roll secures devices and primary dressings for up to seven days. A primary dressing means the layer that touches the wound directly. The roll helps hold gauze, foam pads, and tubing in place. Rounded corners help the edges stay down on moving skin.
Tegaderm IV Transparent Dressing for Catheter Sites
The Tegaderm IV transparent dressing measures 3 1/2 inches by 4 1/4 inches. This clear dressing covers an IV site while letting staff see the skin. Nurses and caregivers can check for redness or swelling without lifting it. Solventum designs its frame style Tegaderm film to protect IV catheter sites and wounds. Trained nurses and health professionals should place and manage IV lines. Ask your nurse or home care team before changing an IV dressing.
How a Tegaderm Film Dressing Works
A thin, clear film covers the skin and holds a wound pad or device. Solventum says its film provides a bacterial and viral barrier. Lab testing shows a viral barrier against viruses 27 nm across or larger. That claim holds only while the dressing stays intact without leakage. Solventum also says the frame style film helps keep a moist wound healing environment. Solventum lists the +Pad version as waterproof, so ask your nurse about showering. Clear film also lets you watch the wound without removing the dressing.
Common Uses for Tegaderm Dressings
People use film dressings over clean cuts, scrapes, and closed surgical wounds. Caregivers use them to hold gauze, foam, and other primary dressings. Nurses use them to protect IV sites and secure small devices. Clinics and home care teams often keep film dressings on hand. A clinician should choose the dressing for deep, infected, or heavily draining wounds.
Tegaderm as a Second Skin for Tattoos
Plenty of tattoo artists cover a fresh tattoo with transparent film, often called second skin. Medical film dressings such as Tegaderm follow the same idea. Your artist sets the wear time, so follow those instructions first. Read our second skin tattoo guide for Vancouver aftercare tips. Skip the film and contact your artist if the skin looks infected.
Choosing the Right Tegaderm Size
Pick a film that extends well past the wound edges onto clean, dry skin. Small cuts fit the smallest size without wasting any film. Choose a +Pad dressing when the wound leaks a little fluid. Heavy drainage needs a more absorbent dressing and a clinician's advice. Measure the wound first, then add room for the film to grip skin. Joints such as knees and elbows need a size with extra film. Phone us if you cannot decide between two similar sizes.
Applying and Removing Tegaderm Dressings
Wash your hands, then clean the skin around the wound and let it dry. Peel the backing away and place the film without stretching it. Smooth the edges down from the centre outward to avoid wrinkles. Wrinkles can let moisture in and make the edges lift. To remove the dressing, lift one edge and stretch it parallel to the skin. Peel low and slow while pressing the nearby skin down. Follow the instructions on the box and your nurse's advice for wear time. Change the dressing sooner if it leaks, lifts, or looks cloudy with fluid.
Tegaderm Compared With Other Dressings We Stock
Mepitel One is a silicone wound contact layer, not a film dressing. Hypafix is a soft fabric sheet that holds dressings on moving areas. Micropore paper tape holds light gauze but offers no waterproof cover. Steri-Strips close the edges of small cuts, while Tegaderm only covers them. Our wound dressings blog sets Tegaderm beside Mepitel, Jelonet, and Maxorb. Browse our wound care supplies for tape, gauze, and bandages. Our tapes and band aids collection lists every tape we stock. Cast and bandage protectors suit showers when you need a larger waterproof cover.
About the Tegaderm Brand and Solventum
Product pages still show the name 3M Tegaderm on many listings. Solventum, a health care company, took over 3M's wound care business in April 2024. The parent company kept a stake of about 20 percent afterward. Its website lists Tegaderm dressings and notes a move to Solventum branding. Packaging may show either the 3M or the Solventum name during this change. Its head office sits in Minnesota in the United States.

Tegaderm Safety Tips
Read the instructions for use before you apply any Tegaderm dressing. Do not use film over infected wounds without a clinician's approval. Contact your doctor if spreading redness, pus, fever, or rising pain appears. Remove the dressing and seek advice if itching, rash, or blisters appear. Adhesive can irritate sensitive or fragile skin, especially in older adults. Never reuse a dressing, and keep the product sterile until you use it. Store unopened dressings away from heat, moisture, and direct sun. Nothing here overrides what your doctor or nurse tells you.
